Born in Parma Ohio, Fred started skating at the tender age of just 2 ½! When he was 15, Fred qualified to compete in his first U.S. National Figure Skating Championships – forsaking all other sporting commitments to focus his energy solely into skating. Fred met Melanie Lambert in 1994 as the two went head-to-head in the US National Championships, then later that year, they became skating partners! The duo went on to become Eastern Champions and later were placed 4th in the Nationals.
In 1999 Fred and Melanie both turned professional and embarked on a series of professional shows such as Holiday On Ice, Disney On Ice and Nutcracker On Ice.
Fred partnered Kay Burley in the TV series Dancing on Ice.
