Bulgarian Ice Dance Champion Maria Filippov began her Dancing on Ice career in the Australian version of the show in 2006, when she partnered eventual Oz-Champion, Jake Wall. This year she partners Blue’s Duncan James - on-screen and on-tour!
Maria Filippov began figure skating aged 8. At 14 she concentrated her efforts on ice-dancing, inspired by her love for music and dance rather than the technicalities of singles skating.
By 1988 she and Hristo Nicolov were representing Bulgaria internationally and continued to do so until their retirement from amateur competition in 1992. Maria was also awarded the honour of "Master of Sport of Bulgaria” bestowed upon her by the Bulgarian Government in recognition of sporting excellence!
